Given that we're living on an island, fresh seafood is easily accessible, which makes sense for a place like this. As a chu char restaurant, customers choose from an extensive menu that spans seafood, meats, and vegetables. Whenever I dine at Ah Chui’s, the fishball soup is a must-eat for me. It’s one of their signature dishes and a local favourite. We also ordered the golden pomfret, which we had split into two portions and cooked in two different styles—Teo Chew steamed and ikan bakar (grilled). Other dishes that we had includes Kam Heong prawns and Sarumi vegetables stir-fried with sambal. Sarumi is a lesser-known wild-grown vegetable that adds a unique touch. While the offerings may seem similar to other chu char spots in Penang, Ah Chui puts its own spin on the flavours.
